Since 2005, Art Shanty Projects has organized a month-long public art happening that transforms unregulated public spaces into interactive, artist-driven temporary communities expanding notions of what art can be.

The 2018 On-Ice Program will be located on the frozen surface of Lake Harriet January 20 - February 11, 2018. Visiting the village is free and open to the public.  For updates and a schedule of events, please continue to check our social media outlets and sign up for our mailing list.  Once you have visited, please fill out our survey so we can continue to improve the program.

Bus: You can use to plot out your route. The 6 Route ( will get you .3 miles from the bandshell if you get off at the Sheridan Ave S & 42nd St W Stop.

Parking: Paid lots and street parking are available near the bandshell and surrounding neighborhood. 

The shanties are located approximately 500 ft offshore on the ice. Ice Access will be clearly marked from the parking area. We strongly encourage you to dress for cold weather and snow: boots, snow pants, coat, hats, mittens, scarf, Yax Trax / shoe spikes, etc. to ensure your experience on ice is enjoyable.
